The cat's claw is a very popular medicinal plant in Peru and can be found throughout the Peruvian Amazon. Its popular name was inspired on the similarity of its thorns with cat's nails. The Incas were the first to get benefits of their active ingredients using it mainly as anti-inflammatory, to treat arthritis, gastritis, rheumatism and inflammation in general. It was first described in 1830, but began to arouse scientific interest only in 1970, when it was initiated scientific research, especially in Europe, which ended up proving its therapeutic value. 1,2
